Bare Bottoms + Ice
Bare Truth About Ice Climbing
Words by Meg
So ice climbing..where do I begin? The sport revolves around freezing your tush off, risking serious injuries with falling ice and avalanches from above, and exerting such effort to haul yourself up a face with crampons and ice axes. Sound fun? It is. Granted I suck, but the point of ice climbing or learning any outdoor sport isn’t about being good or trying to be the best. The reason why we put ourselves in challenging terrain and push ourselves to our mental and physical limits is to experience the humbling power of the natural world. Mountains, dirt, ice, and waves don’t care about the fight you and your boyfriend had, the bad test score, or the laundry list of emails and to-do errands waiting for you back home. Solitude and peace reign these mighty places. It’s in this wild land that we are kept grounded.
